Call for Applications: Regional Training for Chinese Language Teachers in Latin America and the Caribbean 2026

Ye Jun East China Normal University, Deputy Director and Lecturer at the Training Centre for International Chinese Teachers, PhD thesis supervisor, member of the National Guidance Committee for Postgraduate Education in the Specialism of International Chinese Language Teaching, and Secretary-General of the Teacher Development Committee of the World Association for Teaching Chinese. His main areas of research are linguistics and applied linguistics, international Chinese language teaching, and studies on Chinese phonetics and grammar. He has been selected for the Chinese Ministry of Education’s “Outstanding Talents of the New Century” programme and Shanghai’s “Pujiang Talents” programme, and has received numerous awards for research and teaching achievements at provincial and ministerial level. He has taught at Cornell University, Wellesley College and the University of Virginia in the United States, and has extensive experience in leading-edge teaching both in China and abroad.

Zhang Tianchi Head of the Department of Research and Teaching for Teacher Training at the International Chinese Teacher Training Centre of East China Normal University, and a full-time lecturer at the Confucius Institute. She is responsible for designing courses on digitalisation and artificial intelligence for teacher training, developing teaching resources and delivering classes. She has received the Exemplary Case Award for Digital Application and Practice at the World Conference on Chinese Language, has presented a paper at the International Symposium of the European Association for Teaching Chinese, and has contributed to the compilation of the “Series of Preparation Books for the International Chinese Teacher Certificate Examination” published by People’s Education Press. She has delivered courses on digital and smart Chinese language teaching for the Shanghai Overseas Chinese Affairs Office and the Chinese Language Education Foundation, amongst other institutions. She has taught Chinese language and culture at Aarhus University (Denmark) and the Confucius Institute at the University of Turin (Italy), and has extensive experience in teaching abroad, as well as in training local teachers in digitalisation and artificial intelligence.

Andrés Ibáñez Holds a Master’s degree in Teaching Mandarin Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages from East China Normal University, Shanghai. He also holds diplomas in neurolearning and instructional design. He currently teaches Mandarin Chinese language and Chinese culture at the Confucius Institutes of Universidad Santo Tomás and Universidad San Francisco de Quito, in addition to teaching at various higher education institutions in Chile.

Freddy Fredes Mandarin Chinese teacher at the UC Confucius Institute (Universidad Católica de Chile). Holds a Master’s degree in applied linguistics from Shandong University, China. He has been a speaker at Chinese teaching conferences in Peru, Mexico, and Chile.

Cesar Matiusso PhD candidate and holds a Master’s degree in Translation Studies from the LETRA postgraduate programme at the University of São Paulo. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chinese Language and Literature, also from USP, with an exchange period at GDUFS (广东外语外贸大学) in Guangzhou, China. He has worked as a local instructor at the Confucius Institute at Unesp (São Paulo, Brazil) since 2018. He was a contributor to the Confucius Institute Magazine in Portuguese and, as a literary translator, has translated and studied authors such as Su Dongpo, Lu Xun, and Eileen Chang.
