The CLEC Foundation – Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, in collaboration with the Chinese Writers’ Association, will organize a tour of Latin America in September 2026 featuring some of the most renowned writers in contemporary Chinese literature. The delegation will include Liu Zhenyun, Lu Min, Han Dong, and Tai Kuang—authors with extensive international careers whose works have been translated into multiple languages and honored with major literary awards.

The initiative aims to strengthen cultural and academic exchange between China and Latin America through various literary activities. The tour will promote dialogue among writers, scholars, translators, students, and readers, creating new opportunities for cooperation between institutions in both regions. Through this program, ICLEC reaffirms its commitment to promoting the Chinese language and culture and building bridges of understanding through literature, with the participation of Confucius Institutes at prestigious Latin American universities that will host the delegation during its tour, including the National Autonomous University of Mexico, El Colegio de México, the Autonomous University of Yucatán, the University of Mendoza, and the São Paulo State University in Brazil, among other institutions.

The programs will feature keynote lectures, discussions on literary translation, roundtable discussions, book presentations, academic exchange sessions, and exclusive interviews with magazines from the Latin American literary world.

Liu Zhenyun 刘震云

Born in Henan in 1958 and a graduate of Peking University, Liu Zhenyun is a cornerstone of contemporary Chinese literature and cinema. His career spans four decades of publishing success, during which he has established himself as a masterful storyteller acclaimed by critics worldwide. The universal impact of his writing is reflected in translations into more than twenty languages and numerous highly successful film adaptations. As well as receiving the highest literary honours in his home country, his talent enjoys immense international prestige. Recognised in France and Italy, his cultural relevance remains undiminished as a key artistic bridge between East and West.

Lu Min 鲁敏

She is one of the most influential contemporary voices in Chinese literature. Born in Jiangsu in 1973, she heads major literary professional bodies and has a solid track record spanning almost three decades. Her extensive literary output combines commercial success with unanimous and consistent critical acclaim. She has won prestigious national awards and regularly features on lists of authors with the brightest future prospects. Furthermore, her cultural impact extends globally thanks to translations into numerous languages across Asia and the West.

Han Dong 韩东

He is a key figure in contemporary Chinese poetry and literature. He is renowned as a leading figure of the ‘Third Generation’ movement and for his profound philosophy on language. His prolific career spans more than forty works and includes his country’s highest literary honours. He is a multi-talented artist who has achieved international success in both film directing and literature. Today, his well-established career is extending his direct cultural influence to readers across the Spanish-speaking world.

Tai Kuang 邰筐

Tai Kuang, the pen name of the eminent Chinese poet Tai Maoguang, is a leading figure in his country’s contemporary literary scene. He combines his creative work with teaching and research at prestigious universities in Beijing and Sichuan. His work as an executive editor and anthologist has established him as a major driving force in the cultural sphere. He has been awarded numerous national honours, including the People’s Literature Prize and the Taishan Prize. Furthermore, his artistic influence extends globally thanks to the translation of his work into various languages.
