Notice Chinese Talent Contest in Latin America and the Caribbean 2022
The CLEC Foundation – Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean presents the “Chinese Talent Contest in Latin America and the Caribbean 2022”. The objective of this call is to promote the interest and study of Chinese language and culture in the region, in addition to promoting friendship, cultural and artistic exchange between China and the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.
This contest is open to Chinese language students from all educational institutions in the region, in three categories: singing (interpretation of a Chinese song), adaptation of a song into the Chinese language, and composition of a song in Chinese language. Contestants can choose only one category and demonstrate their talent, mastery of the Chinese language, and understanding of Chinese culture.
All who wish to participate in this contest are asked to carefully read the following information.
1.Competition process
The Chinese Talent Contest in Latin America and the Caribbean 2022 is divided into five stages:
- First stage: Publication of the bases
The Regional Center will publish the bases of the competition on August 17, 2022, through email, official website, official WeChat account, community, social networks, etc.
- Second stage: Reception of the works: from August 30 to September 28, 2022.
Contestants must send the requested materials (see Annex 1): video, application form, student certificate and personal photos to the coordinator Andrea Mella amellaf@crical.org through the Wetransfer website. Sending the material through other platforms may result in delays in receiving and processing the material.
After the videos and materials have passed the review, the Regional Center will send a confirmation message to the participant within 3 business days.
- Third stage: Online voting: October 1-10, 2022. Participants and online users must enter the Regional Center’s YouTube channel page to vote online by 12:00 (noon) on October 10, time zone GMT-3. The “Likes” on the video will be counted on the YouTubeplatform https://www.youtube.com/c/fundacionclec. The most voted video will receive the “Popularity Award”.
- Fourth stage. Review and evaluation of the works. From September 28 to October 10, 2022.
The Regional Center will have a panel of experts who will form the review committee, to formulate review criteria and conduct a preliminary evaluation and review of all work.
- Stage five: Announcement of the winners. 12 October 2022 at 10.00 GMT-3. The winners for all categories will be announced at the closing ceremony that will be held online through the Zoom platform.

2.Requirements:
2.1. Participants
- All Chinese language students from educational institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean can participate.
- A valid student certificate (2022) must be sent indicating the level of Chinese studied. It must be signed by the head of the Chinese language teaching institution where they are located, in addition to indicating the level of Learning Chinese (basic – intermediate – advanced). Certificates from previous years will not be accepted.
- If the contestants are of Chinese nationality, they must possess a certificate of permanent or definitive residence in their country of residence.
- For participants under the age of majority (18 years old) an authorization (authorizing participation in the competition and the use of their video) signed by their legal guardian must be attached.
2.2 Content and categories
Contestants must record a video of 3 to 6 minutes in length in a single video file, the subject of which belongs to one of the following categories:
(1) Interpretation of a Chinese song
- A 1-minute Chinese-language presentation should be included.
- Interpretation of a Chinese song. The information of the song must be included: title, interpreter.
- Individual or group participation.
- If it is a group, only 1 member (representative) must send the form and materials.
- Accompanying music can be used in the performance, making sure that there is no original singing sound, otherwise the online platform will remove the post from the video.
- The evaluation will be based on introduction in Chinese language, pronunciation, intonation, staging.
(2) Adaptation of a song into the Chinese language.
- A 1-minute Chinese-language presentation should be included.
- Adaptation of a song from Latin America and the Caribbean into the Chinese language. The information of the original song must be included: title, performer.
- Individual or group participation.
- If it is a group, only 1 member (representative) must send the form and materials.
- Accompanying music can be used in the performance, making sure that there is no original singing sound, otherwise the online platform will remove the post from the video.
- The evaluation will be based on introduction in Chinese language, intonation, pronunciation and translation, staging, adaptation of the song.
(3) Composition of a song.
- A 1-minute Chinese-language presentation should be included.
- Composition of a song in Chinese language. Song information should be included: title, performer.
- Individual or group participation.
- If it is a group, only 1 member (representative) must send the form and materials.
- The evaluation will be based on: introduction in Chinese language, intonation, pronunciation, coherence, staging, song composition.
2.3. Technical requirements
- Video length: 3 to 6 minutes, videos of less than 3 minutes or more than 6 minutes will not be accepted.
- Format: .avi .mpg .flv .mp4
- Content: The introduction must include information such as the contestant’s full name, the name of the educational institution where he studies, category in which he participates and other information.
- The video must meet the requirements for each category (2.2). The content of the video must be highly compatible with the category selected by the contestant.
- Video quality: The image must be clear and stable, the sound must be clear, allowing to understand the pronunciation and content.
3. Awards
Each category is awarded separately. The organizing committee will issue prize certificates and award the prizes to the winners. Each participant can only receive one prize.
- First prize: 400 USD
- Second prize: 300 USD
- Third prize: 200 USD
- Popularity Award: 200 USD
After the competition, the Regional Center will contact the participants who will receive the prize in local currency and according to the corresponding dollar value exchange.
4. Important considerations
- Submitted works must be original and created by the same participant according to the requirements of each category;
- If there is any participation of other people in the video, they must have their authorization;
- Legal issues such as copyright, reputation rights, authorization of the participants in the video and others, involved in the work will be borne by the participant himself , ensuring that the video will not infringe the copyright of a third party;
- By submitting their application, participants authorize the Regional Center to enjoy the right to distribute their work online indefinitely;
- The Regional Center and the cooperative media have the right to reuse tickets for exhibition, demonstration and other purposes for advertising purposes, without remuneration or additional permission;
- Participating in the competition involves no payment or fee.
- CLEC Foundation – Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean is the organizer of the event.
- It is the responsibility of the participant to send all requested materials. The lack of requested materials will lead to the elimination of the participant from the participation process.
- Anyone submitting their application is deemed to have accepted the conditions of this competition.
