The global trial phase of the HSK 3.0 exam has begun!

In order to meet the international needs of Chinese language learners and continuously optimize the HSK exam content, the trial phase of HSK 3.0 began on January 31, 2026, at selected test centers worldwide, including regions in Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Africa, covering levels HSK 1 to 6.
It should be noted that this is a pilot test of HSK 3.0. For now, the official 2026 exam dates still correspond to version 2.0. The official launch date of HSK 3.0 will be announced at a later time.
I. Exam Format
The pilot test was conducted in two formats: paper-based and computer-based.
II. HSK 3.0 Exam Structure
HSK (Level 3) + HSK (Level 3) speaking = HSK (Level 3) + HSK speaking (basic)
HSK (Level 4) + HSK (Level 4) speaking = HSK (Level 4) + HSK speaking (intermediate)
HSK (Level 5) + HSK (Level 5) speaking = HSK (Level 5) + HSK speaking (advanced)
HSK (Level 6) + HSK (Level 6) speaking = HSK (Level 6) + HSK speaking (advanced)
Note: Registration fees for HSK (Level 1), HSK (Level 2), and HSK (Levels 7–9) remain unchanged. For more details, please consult your local test center.
III. Exam Levels and Duration
HSK (Level 1): approx. 40 minutes
HSK (Level 2): approx. 60 minutes
HSK (Level 3): Written test: approx. 83 minutes | Speaking test: approx. 15 minutes
HSK (Level 4): Written test: approx. 85 minutes | Speaking test: approx. 20 minutes
HSK (Level 5): Written test: approx. 110 minutes | Speaking test: approx. 23 minutes
HSK (Level 6): Written test: approx. 125 minutes | Speaking test: approx. 23 minutes
Notes:
- The written exam includes 5 minutes to complete personal information and 3–5 minutes to fill in the answer sheet; the speaking test includes preparation time.
- The score report is valid for 2 years.
HSK 3.0 Competency Description
The HSK Chinese Proficiency Test is a standardized exam that primarily evaluates the ability of non-native Chinese learners to communicate in daily, academic, and professional contexts.
HSK (Level 1): Able to conduct simple communication in daily situations.
HSK (Level 2): Able to conduct basic communication in daily, academic, and work situations.
HSK (Level 3): Able to communicate effectively in daily, academic, and work situations.
HSK (Level 4): Able to communicate completely and coherently in daily, academic, and work situations.
HSK (Level 5): Able to communicate accurately and appropriately in academic and professional contexts.
HSK (Level 6): Able to communicate fluently and with a wide range of expressions in professional and academic contexts.
HSK (Level 7): Able to communicate correctly and fluently in general professional and academic contexts.
HSK (Level 8): Able to communicate appropriately and in depth in professional and academic contexts.
HSK (Level 9): Able to communicate precisely and in depth across various professional and academic contexts.
