Would you like to discover the most beautiful village in China? Would you like to feel harmony in all living things at the National Botanical Garden? Would you like to visit the 798 Art District, home to the country’s most avant-garde creative industry? Would you like to make a close observation of China’s community culture? Would you like to know the cultural icons that best represent the tradition of Beijing? Come and join the Sino-Latin American Youth Workshop hosted by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation-Latin American and Caribbean Centre and organized by Beijing Language and Culture University. Here, you will learn Chinese language through communication with Chinese students and explore the country with your own eyes.

“Live-streaming China, Contacting Latin America” Sino-Latin American Youth Workshop

3. Content

“Approaching China” field research includes five themes: “Chinese Village Tour”, “Harmony in Living Things”, “798: Creative Industry in Beijing”, “Social life in China”, and “Beijing’s Business Card”. During the research, you will discover different aspects of modern China, experience authentic Chinese culture and social life, and see how Chinese high-tech is facilitating industrial production and people’s daily life.

“Live-streaming China”: During the 1.5-hour exchange session, Latin American students in China who participated in the field research will be invited to share their thoughts about “Chinese Village Tour”, “Approaching 798 Art District”, “China National Botanical Garden”, “Social Life in China”, “Time-honored Brands in Beijing” and interact with online Latin American students in the form of Q&A.

“Contacting Latin America”: Based on the themes above and their own experience, Chinese and Latin American youth will be encouraged to reflect on the shared opportunities and challenges faced by China and Latin America during the world’s peaceful development, discuss the responsibilities of today’s youth and come up with solutions to global challenges.

“Working Together”: Latin American youth and BLCU students will work in groups to complete assignments required for each class.

7. Recruitment Target

200 Latin American and Caribbean youth who love Chinese language and culture. HSK level 2 preferred.

8. Admission Requirements

Ability to take live-streaming classes on time throughout the program.

Love for Chinese culture, willingness to learn about different cultures, ability to communicate with a friendly attitude, and an inclusive mindset.

Ability to work in a team and complete group assignments for online classes.

Personal opinions and special knowledge about any of the themes will be preferred.

12. Project Achievements

Students who take part in all activities and finish assignments on time will receive a learning certificate. 30 excellent students will be recommended to apply for scholarships.
